How does the 3D Viewer in Ed Controls work?

Print Friendly, PDF & Email

Ed Controls provides a powerful 3D viewer that allows you to easily upload, view and analyze IFC files. The viewer is easy to use and offers a wide range of features, including:

  • Uploading IFC files:
You can upload IFC files through the library module under the “Upload files (other)” option. The uploaded IFC files are added to Ed Controls and prepared for conversion to a 3D model.
  • Convert IFC files to 3D models:
Uploaded IFC files are usually converted to a 3D model within 15 minutes (maximum 30 minutes). You will receive an on-screen message indicating that the file is being converted and this may take up to 30 minutes.
  • 2D and 3D rendering of IFC files:
Uploaded IFC files can be viewed in both 2D and 3D. In the 3D view, users can hide/show different sections of the model, move or view the model, and navigate between sections and planes. In 2D view, you can select different layers, view and move 2D drawings, and view the corresponding 3D location by clicking on a 2D plane.
  • Replace and restore 3D models:
You can replace or restore 3D models at any time you wish. You can also view all revisions of the model by selecting the different versions in the library module.

Ed Controls supports the following IFC types:

IFC 4

  • IFC 4
  • IFC 4.3 – IFC4.3 TC1 (zip)
  • IFC 4.0 – IFC4 ADD2 TC1

IFC 2

  • IFC 2.3 – IFC2x3, IFC2x3 TC1
  • IFC 2.2 – IFC2x2, IFC2x2 ADD1
  • IFC 2.1 – IFC2x, IFC2x ADD1
  • IFC 2.0 – IFC2.0

Please note: The maximum file size for uploading IFC files is 700 MB. Larger IFC files must be compressed into a zip file before they can be converted to a 3D model. The zip file should be a maximum of 750 MB.
